Projects: Citrix Consulting Services / Active Directory Migration / Managed Services for Citrix
University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago (UIMCC) needed to upgrade its 90+ Citrix servers running on MetaFrame 1.8 with Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Servers to Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server with Windows 2000 server. UIMCC faced a major challenge in the reinstallation of over 80 applications that conflicted with each other with some requiring version upgrades. UIMCC also needed to comply with the HIPAA requirements by disallowing printing access to employees accessing medical records from remote locations not on the UIMCC campus.
UIMCC also desired to migrate its Windows NT 4.0 domain environment to Windows 2003 Active Directory to prepare for its Windows XP rollout and support enhanced user experience and easy manageability with Active Directory Group Policies.
The IntelliSuite team used Softricity SoftGrid application virtualization software to sequence all applications so that each now runs in a virtual environment without conflicting with any other application and without any modification to the registry or DLL’s of the host Citrix MetaFrame server. The Softricity SoftGrid technology enables clean operating system environment and allows new applications to be provisioned just by installing Windows 2000 server OS, Citrix MetaFrame software, and the Softricity SoftGrid Terminal Services client.
IntelliSuite deployed Citrix Secure Gateway services to allow 128bit encrypted access to Citrix applications and route remote employees to non-printing servers.
IntelliSuite migrated UIMCC’s Windows NT 4.0 domain environment to Windows 2003 Active Directory and designed the Group Policy for easier manageability and enhanced user experience.
